The magic of nature is all around us, waiting to be discovered through careful observation. Wood, leaves, wool, tree, hemp, light, and leather are the organic that construct my work, mirroring the elements present in the natural world. It is my intention to call attention to the overlooked, the forgotten. The process of this work comes from an instinctual process of gathering material and making it into something that is universally understood. These gathering and weaving techniques are reminiscent of the indigenous cultures of the world. A society blinded by technological advancements and industry, often neglects the wonder of the world’s organic. My work aims to bring humanity back to its roots, quite literally. Organic textures assembled through a repetitive and hypnotic process challenge the viewer to engage with the natural through contemplated reorganization of earth’s filaments. With a reclaimed reverence for the beauty of nature, form transcends language and achieves universal communication and connection between all that encounter my work. The overall theme is to humbly pay homage to the elements: earth, wind, fire, and water. These elements are unifying and rooted in the core of all living beings. I believe that all elements fuel life, and are central to all living beings. My art is driven by oneness. It is all encompassing, and is about the juxtaposition of natural and manmade. There exists a delicate balance, maintained by mindfulness, that I seek to depict through my work. An encounter with these forms should call the viewer into the present moment, and beckon contemplation about the intricacies of the natural world. Through corrective processes I hope to inspire people to take action to reverse negative impacts of our developed society’s byproducts.
